“This is a Blog specifically for summer BS110 students [..] This Blog is designed to support the thrice weekly course lectures. By no means should it be viewed as a lecture replacement! The postings on this Blog are designed to help provide advice/direction to questions such as:

As a BS110 student…

  • What should I do in the (extremely valuable) time between each lecture?
  • What parts of today’s lecture were most important, significant, useful, etc.?
  • How can I better prepare myself to do well on things like assignments, projects, and exams?

In addition, this Blog is designed as a sort of ‘translation’ device to help accompany you through the course. For many students the language of science in university science courses can feel overwhelming–it is common for students to struggle to find ways to communicate their knowledge and ideas because the language of science can feel technical or highly specialized. Therefore, think of this Blog as a translator or guide that you might hire when you visit someplace on vacation. Throughout the Blog, I will try my best to act as a helpful bridge between (on the one hand) the language of science/scientists and (on the other hand) the language(s) that most of us use somewhat comfortably every day.”
